BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF VENTURA TEENS TO LAUNCH THE NATIONAL BOYS & GIRLS OF AMERICA WEEK BY HOSTING FORMER WORLD CHAMPION SURFER, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND FILMMAKER SHAUN TOMSON FOR A PRESENTATION ON APRIL 16-4:00 PM at the ROBERT ADDISON CENTER, VENTURA.

The teens at the Boys & Girls Club of Ventura’s Robert Addison Center will kick off the National Boys & Girls Club of America Week, Monday, April 16th – 4:00 PM with a presentation by Shaun Tomson. He’s the former World Champion Surfer, best-selling author of the ‘Surfer’s Code: 12 Simple Lessons for Riding Through Life’, businessman and award winning documentary filmmaker of ‘Bustin’ Down the Door’. His talk will center on his own experiences of overcoming seemingly insurmountable life challenges, both in and out of the surf.

Shaun Tomson was born in South Africa and is a business and finance graduate from the University of Natal. He’s an inductee into the U.S. Surfer’s Hall of Fame, the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and the South African Sports Hall of Fame. He is a Board member and ambassador for Surfrider Foundation, the world’s largest environmental group dedicated to protecting the world’s oceans, waves and beaches. In 2002 he received the prestigious SIMA Environmentalist of the Year Award. He has been described as “one of the greatest and most influential surfers of the century.”

He’s spoken and presented programs that have inspired and touched the hearts of audiences as large as 3,000 for many of the U.S.’s largest companies and universities: Disney, Cisco, Google, Price Waterhouse, General Motors, Patagonia, San Diego State, etc.

National Boys & Girls Club of America Week occurs April 16 through April 20, 2012 and all five Boys & Girls Club of Ventura centers in Ventura, Oak View and Saticoy will feature special programs and activities for ages 6-18 years of age. There will be a members’ art show beginning April 16th that will showcase art projects in the lobby of the Ventura County Hall of Administration. The week’s program will include: a field day at Barranca Vista Park, talent shows, family movie nights, making piñatas for Cinco de Mayo, science projects, award ceremony for poetry and winners of the Heptathlon, Kids’ Choice Awards, games’ room tourneys and gym activities, Earth Day Beach Clean-Ups, Foosball Tournament, gardening, etc.
